For some Exchange (EWS) account emails with multiple recipients in To or Cc fields, Thunderbird may hide the button in the message pane header and the message list's columns Correspndents and Recipients may not display all recipient information in Table View. This article explains why this happens and how to fix the affected messages.
Why the Reply All button is missing
When Thunderbird 152.0 downloaded certain messages from an Exchange (EWS) server, some message details were not stored correctly in your local copy, including the full list of recipients. Because Thunderbird does not find more than one recipient, it does not show the button for those messages nor display the correct information in the Recipients column.
Whether a message is affected depends on the version of Thunderbird that last downloaded it, which is why only some messages are missing the button and others messages are not missing the button.
Updating to Thunderbird 152.0.1 or newer avoids incorrect message downloads, but messages already downloaded with incomplete data using 152.0 need to be repaired manually using the steps below.
Repair an affected folder
You must update to version 152.0.1 or newer, then repair the folder to rebuild its local index with the missing recipient information. After a repair, the button appears again for all messages that have multiple recipients, and the full recipient list will display correctly in the message list.
- Update to version 152.0.1 or newer. Briefly: click the Thunderbird app menu > > . If an update is available, you will see an button. Click to update, and when the download is finished click on to complete the update. Refer to Update Thunderbird to the latest version for details.
- In the folder pane, find the Exchange (EWS) folder that contains messages with a missing button.
- Right-click (Ctrl + click on macOS) the EWS folder > .
- In the Folder Properties window, General information tab, click and wait for the repair to finish.
Repeat these steps for other Exchange folders where the button is missing.
Still missing the Reply All button?
If the button is still missing after updating Thunderbird and repairing the folder, confirm that the message actually has more than one recipient in the To or Cc fields by examining the message headers by pressing Ctrl + U (Command + U on macOS) to view the message source. A message sent only to you will not show a button.
