I've been searching again and again and again, and none of the solutions suggested on internet work. And there are also something too complicated to me.

Hi, jscher2000:

Yes it WORKS! Thank you so much for your help!!

I don't want all pages to remember my passwords I just want few specific pages to remember passwords. eg. for now I only need craigslist login page to remember my pw, not any other login pages.

So if this is the case, then it's a perfect solution to me.

I'm not sure what you've tried, but see whether this helps.

In a new tab, type or paste about:permissions in the address bar and press Enter. Wait a few moments for Firefox to start listing sites in the left column. You can scroll down, or to quickly filter the list, type part of the domain in the search box above the list.

Select the relevant site on the left side. Then, on the right side, adjust the setting under Store Passwords.

Does that work?

Hi, jscher2000,

I did try this. The "store passwords" shows "allow" all the time, no need to adjust.

I do remember I fixed this problem by clearing all sites preferences/cache etc. a long time ago....but now I am been upgraded to new version FF and this doesn't work anymore.

On that about:permissions page, you will notice on the right side a button to "Forget About This Site"*. That will clear the site data: history, permissions, cookies, bookmarks, everything for that site. Is that what you used before?

Note that on some sites, the login form is coded to prevent Firefox from saving the password. Firefox allows sites to set autocomplete="off" on the username and password fields to block saving the login. Do you want to post the address of the login page for someone to take a look at it before flushing all the site data?

* This appears after you select a specific site from the list.

Yes, I did clear all data from this site by clicking "forget about...."

Here is the site: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/

hello frustrateY, yes this is one such site which specifies in its source code that browsers should not be able to save the password through the method jscher2000 has described.

you can either install an addon or use a bookmarklet to circumvent this behaviour.

Usernames and passwords are not saved

Also make sure that you haven't set a block exception for this website

  • Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: Exceptions

--- (the password field has autocomplete=off)

OK, thanks for letting me know this website doesn't support saved password.

But I don't know how to create bookmarklet and not familiar with any add-on those sort of stuff....that sounds complicated to me and I don't know how long I will spend on figuring out....(I tried but still don't understand)

cor-el: I did check this but this website is not on the "exception" list.

Also I don't know how to use "autocomplete=off", don't understand this portion at all.

Hi frustrateY, autocomplete="off" is a setting in the Craiglist login form. This instructs browsers that they should not fill in that field automatically. In this situation, Firefox doesn't even try to save the password.

If you don't want to try the other methods of changing this, you can do it manually using the Inspector tool.

Right-click the password entry box and choose Inspect Element (Q).

The inspector tool will open and the HTML source code for the box will be highlighted. Please see the attached screen shot.

If you examine the HTML code, you will see autocomplete="off" right there.

Double-click the word off and change it to the word on. Press the Enter key to complete your edit.

Now log in and see whether Firefox offers to save your password. Success?

Note: Changes made in the Inspector are temporary. When you reload the page, your changes are discarded and the original source is used again. Since you can't break the page permanently, feel free to experiment.

Also even I have more than one ID/passwords on craiglist, I don't want firefox to remember all of them, I just need some of them to be remembered, so this temporary change gives me much more flexibility. :)

Thanks again.

You probably won't need to use that trick very often, but if you find Firefox not prompting you to save a password for a site, you know how to dig into the code and fix this issue.

25% - 30% of cases I will use it. so I can pick which ones to be remembered, and change it at anytime. Love it.
