A forum I am a moderator on keeps telling me I am banned and this only happens on my droid RAZR. I have spoke with the site owner and am able to log on when I am using my other device, just not using Firefox browser and a few others so I am not banned.

Site owner told me to delete everything from the browser, but I have no idea how to do this, any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Does this help

From what the site says I am guessing any ban is not IP Address based. So clearing site details cookies etc should do it.

Thank you for your help jonh99, I just cleared everything and tried to log on and usually get my username come up saying you are banned. This time it did not recognize my username but still said I am banned as a guest, so I don't know and maybe it's an issue with the forum.

Thanks again for your help, it was much appreciated.

I would expect you not to get the user name showing up if you cleared everything. Check again. Ensure all tabs to the site are closed and make sure you clear everything including cache & cookies.

If you had a tab open it is possible that was setting a cookie about you being banned. No certain how banning by IPA would work, especially on a Mobile, and it is something sites do not normally do because most IPAs are dynamic &/or would ban whole groups of users.

If that does not work then contact the site again. Obviously they will not be deliberately banning one of their Moderators !

Do you have another browser on the same device,

  • is that also showing you as banned ?
  • does clearing cache & cookies etc. on that browser enable you to login ?

It did stop showing the user name and just says i am a guest, but even as a guest it says i am banned. I have been going back and fourth with site owners about this but it does not get me anywhere since i believe they are a little clueless as to what is going on.

I just checked other browsers i have and they are banned as well, when i download a new one it works for a week or two then the same thing happens. I guess i am stuck working it out with the site owner which in the end will go nowhere, I believe they are dong something that is banning members on mobile devices in an attempt to stop spam.

Thank you for your time

Sorry I could not help more.

It seems odd that a site can not explain to its own moderators what is happening, but if they are telling you to clear some thing can you try to double check what you need to clear and ask what it is that is detected resulting in your ban when on the mobile device.

Is there anything special about the data your browser sends to identify itself? This test page will show the headers you are sending to sites, including your user agent:

IF they have done IP bans they should only ban the specific IP and not a range with wildcard * to limit banning innocents. Even so bans should not be permanent and even just for a short period to bump them off as manual and bot spammers are not really deterred by IP bans if they are persistent as they will just come back with another proxy or IP in short time.

A quick test can also be to access the website via Google Translate with a randomly chosen source language like fr.

Well I had the global moderator remove some of the bans he installed and it let me back on using the Firefox browser, but none of my other browsers work and now the spam is insane. There are a lot of members that cannot log on because of this and I think it is stopping new members from joining, this seems to be a problem if your using a mobile device.

Thank you to everyone for your help, hopefully they figure out how to run a forum and allow members to log on while also not getting 20+ spam posts a day.

Are they allowing Guest posting?

What forum software is it using as for example phpBB3 can have it so new members requires post approval on first one or more posts. While you have the downside of mods needing to be around to check and approve the new member post for public, the upside is if it is a spam post it will not be seen by public or a search bot at all unless the post was approved.
