Firefox has been randomly and repeatedly crashing for about a week. I sometimes get a couple hours of uninterrupted browsing but often have to restart Firefox 10 times in 10 minutes too. It is completely random, still happens in safe mode AND when plug-ins/add-ons are disabled. I am using the latest version, I have uninstalled completely and re installed, but this only worked for a day or so. It happens on many different pages and does not seem to have a pattern. Malware bytes has been run repeatedly and nothing is found. Windows has all available updates. The only thing I can imagine could cause this that I haven't tried to fix is the discordance between Firefox and old Windows XP as a possible issue. Any ideas?

There seems to be possibilities that the above entries relate to either malware masquerading as something else (that could explain why they are unversioned) or they could be old remnants from a now unsupported Google Desktop.

It may be worth trying to uninstall Google Desktop, or quarantining and possibly removing those two files. It would certainly be worth running an up-to-date malware check on those specific files.

Presumably you have read Firefox Crashes have you tried yet updating your drivers and all software ?

I note you tried safe mode you should also whilst in safe mode try disabling all plugins. Another troubleshooting method to try is creating and using a new profile, will you please try that

Your report for CrashID 110989f5-d087-4592-bf32-a31342120410

  • Crash Signature: gkmedias.dll@0x7fd79

I also wonder what these are (I have not tried looking them up yet)

  • GoogleDesktopNetwork3.dll E3FA772A770340838E8E28BE92BA32356
  • GoogleDesktopResources_en.dll 546AEF845A954C65875977A69002801B1

Have you some Google toolbar or search utility installed, if so

  • what is it ?
  • is it still supported and the latest version ?
  • have you tried disabling or uninstalling it ?

All software has been updated. I did disable plug ins while in safe mode, and have actually been running Firefox since the OP this with all plug-ins disabled. It crashes much less, but still several random times per day.

The only toolbars I have up are the Menu and Navigation toolbars. The Navigation toolbar does include a search box that can select different search engines, but I think this is standard on Firefox.

I am currently running with no profile, like a guest user. I will try creating a different profile.

I created a new profile, and uninstalled and re installed firefox, but it still crashes. I have noticed it does it much more when my igoogle page is up, or other media intensive sites.

Starting yesterday at around 10 AM Hawaii time, FF 13.0.1 became completely unstable. Not only does FF crash, but it also completely reboots my otherwise hyper-stable Win XPSP3 computer. I can't find anything that says anything was auto-loaded by Mozilla, but Event Viewer gives system errors of

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 bd27fa1b, parameter3 ad011894, parameter4 00000000.

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 bd27fa1b, parameter3 ac2e9894, parameter4 00000000.

I can only run FF in Safe Mode of course, but even then it has crashed seven times in the past 32 hours.

I would really appreciate some serious help on this problem!!

Hi Ken,

Please see Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly)

Please read the tips and if that does not help Try to obtain and post a couple of recent CrashIDs as explained in the article linked above.

Please post in a new thread of your own using

  • /questions/new and follow the prompts and links
    • if Firefox is stable enough please use that, it helps provide more information
Sorry for the inconvenience but I think it is best to lock this thread as it is marked as solved by the OP and it is unlikely to be the same problem (If it is you have the solution above).

P.S.

Note currently crashes and other problems are at the moment often associated with use of Flash 11.3 see flash 11.3 crashes but XP systems should avoid most of those problems.
