Today, I noticed the Ghostery icon usually in the upper right of the Firefox browser is missing. I would like to know how to restore it. clicking on the icon enables me to manage trusting or not trusting sites. This is an important option to have for visiting some sites. I don't know what happened.

Thank you,

Cl MacLeod

Hi, there are a few different reasons an extension button might be missing from its previous spot:

(1) If it "overflowed"

There is an icon similar to >> that can appear next to the main menu button. It opens a drop-down with the buttons which don't fit on the bar. Do you see that or see Ghostery there?

(2) If it was removed from the bar

Firefox's Customize mode will show both built-in and extension buttons that can be added to the toolbars. More info: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

(3) If it's a private window and the extension is not allowed to run in private windows

On the Add-ons page (Command+Shift+a), Extensions panel, check whether Ghostery has the purple mask icon next to its name. If not, click the name to show the Details panel and scroll down to where you can grant permission to run in private windows.

(4) If the toolbar layout got corrupted

At the bottom of the Customize screen, there is a "Restore defaults" button to revert the toolbar layout back to default. This is sometimes needed if the toolbar layout seems corrupted.

(Other more drastic options are also available, but usually not needed.)

Thank you, jscher2000!

The overflow solution worked. I don't have the >> on the screen now. A while back I did have them.

Is it okay to ask you how to delete items in my Bookmarks section. I should go through and delete those I no longer use.

Again, thanks so much for the options in your answer.

I'm glad you didn't have to work through the whole list.

Regarding deleting bookmarks, you should be able to right-click/Ctrl+click them and then find Delete on the context menu. If there is a lot of reorganizing to do, using "Show All Bookmarks" to call up the Library window probably is a good idea. The Library window also has an "Undo" item on the Organize menu (the word Organize might not appear, but you can click the menu buttons to find it) just in case.

Thanks so much. I was able to delete unused bookmarks and now have room rather than overflow!
