New draft copy created on each save (POP3)

Hello, there. I'm experiencing since months a bug.

Each time I save/close a draft message, a new updated copy of the message is created in the local Draft folder, but the old one isn't deleted.

So, if I save 10 times, I found there 10 copies of the message. Quite frustrating.

Please note I have a lot of accounts. For quite all of them I use POP3, not IMAP.

I'm expercing this for POP3 account, while IMAP ones works as expected.

Using Thunderbird 60.4.0 (32 bit) on Windows 10 full updated.

I'm expercing this for POP3 account, while IMAP ones works as expected. Using Thunderbird 60.4.0 (32 bit) on Windows 10 full updated.

Have you tried restarting Thunderbird in safe mode (restart with add-ons disabled from the help menu) It might be your issue is being caused by an add-on.

If you save as a draft and at a later time...

'Edit as a new message' then the next draft will be a new draft. 'Edit Draft message', then the next draft should be a new draft, but old draft should be removed.

For pop mail account:

  • delete any email drafts that are not required.
  • Right click on Drafts folder and select 'Compact'
  • Right click on Drafts folder and select 'Properties'
  • click on 'Repair folder' button
  • click on OK

Test: click on 'Write' type some text and save as draft, exit email. Select 'Drafts' folder select the newly stored draft email and click on 'Edit' to open in a new Write window. Type some more text and save as draft. Does it create a new draft and remove the old draft ?

Toad-Hall, ciao! Unfortunally your suggestion to Compact+Repair draft folder didn't work.

I confirm you, TB still creates a new draft WITHOUT removing the old one. :(

Are the POP mail accounts using their own mail account and own set of folders shown in the left Folder Pane or are they set up as deferred accounts that use a 'Global Inbox' in 'Local Folders' mail account, so all pop mail accounts emails only show in 'Local Folders' ?

I confirm you: most of all numerous accounts I have use the Global Inbox in Local Folders.

The test account I'm using is one of them, as well.

The curious thing is that it worked since years! :)
