thunderbird ignores server setting change

more options

Hi everyone,

I run my own mailserver which address I recently changed. Now I want thunderbird to connect to that new address.

I can change the server address in the server settings, the changed values show up there, but thunderbird still connects to the old address. Subsequently, I get a timeout for the old address.

How can I get thunderbird to use the new address?

Thanks!

Hi there

First thing to do is check here: http://nightly.mtasa.com/ports/

(Make sure you type in the correct port)

Otherwise:

1) Is this a new server?

Then wait 6 hours 2) Have you changed your IP recently?

a) See (1) above b) Some popular servers have tag protection which means your new IP might not work with the browser search.

3) Are you doing anything naughty?

There are certain automatic protections against naughty servers. Check all your resources for files that might inconvenience players. Wait 24 hours after removing naughty files for your server to be re-listed.

4) Have you set the <serverip> setting in mtaserver.conf ?

The <serverip> setting should be set to auto in mtaserver.conf

5) Are you hosting the server on your local PC or local network (LAN) ?

For you only, the server will appear in 'Local' tab (not the 'Internet' tab) Everyone else will see it in the 'Internet' tab. Also, the server IP will be different for you. (Local private IP, not public 'internet' IP). Everyone else will use the public 'internet' IP.

Hello,

The server actually has not changed, I just used to connect to it via local network and now am doing so via its external ip. The server is reachable and usable, other mail clients (KMail, for instance) work fine.

I renamed the old thunderbird profile and started all over, but again am stuck at entering the server data. The mail account wizard fails to recognize it and the "advanced setting" is greyed out. I'm pretty sure that's not how it is supposed to behave. I researched about this and it seems to be a common nusance for users with non-standard mail servers like Gmail etc.

Hi there we have received your mail.

you have your own mail server? this will take a long time before you can properly and completely adjust your own mail server. it could be years. therefore we do not have a direct answer to this. And Some e-mailboxes are not really recommended! And having your own mail server is when you ruin something one thing or the other does not work anymore. This way you can no longer send an email and sometimes not at all. Maybe this is the reason that you get a gray surface offered in advanced settings. A tip is to try again to restart and re-install everything. Also try- https://litmus.com/email-testing

See if the problem no longer occurs and mail back to us.

We are trying to help you further. regards.

The server's not the issue, I'm currently using another mail client that works perfectly.

It's the inability of Thunderbird to freely configure one's mail settings (incoming/outgoing server, ports, logins, SSL, etc.).

Actually, one can configure those, but they are somehow not used by Thunderbird. I did delete the complete account and set it up again, with the same results: you have to put in something known to Thunderbird to be able to set up the account at all (like GMail), and it then sticks to those values and ignores changes.

hi there drTron. we are meant to reset the entire setup of your mail server or system. So that standard values can be put back in place. The thoughts that one can have shifted is possible. Thus a recommendation of this is in its place as a tip. greeting firefox volunteer.

Gray areas that appear can be a cause of the normal settings?

It is a sensitive thing. Go use it. ...
