I went through all the forums, the you tube vids etc. I left for the day and shut off the laptop. I usually let it run 24/7. So, boot up. click FF and nothing happens. Open task manager and when I try to open FF I see it in processes for about 3 seconds then disappears. It gets to about 1790 kb, which I have seen before, That is the exe file I believe, FF won't launch. Re download does not work,FF/safe does not work. Before I uninstall I want to know if anything else might work.

I think there was an update this morning or yesterday. FF worked fine after it.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Yeah well before I do that tell me what happened. There was no crash, no improper shut down, no virus/malware/spyware.

It is ver 56.0.1 (x64 en-US) .If this is going to be a trend I'll use something else. And where is my extension/addon folder so I can at least reapply them IF I clean reinstall. If I'm not mistaken the reinstall resets everything and I start from square 1.

That would be a Refresh. This removes the profiles folder, creates a new folder with some information from the original (history, passwords, bookmarks).

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user folders would not be affected.

These are the only 2 folders in program files / (x86) I see no profile. Unless you want me to open each and rename every file inside.... that does not sound right. And note that the modified date is today

I don't want you to do anything with the profile folders. Just rename or delete the folders that are highlighted in your screenshot. If there are any corrupted file, removing the folders will take care of things.

Did you check the location used by 64-bit Firefox since Firefox might default to a 64-bit Firefox version?

  • (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
