i updated my old PC and did the updates now my old bookmarks can not be restored. Is there any way I can force it to restore?

I started up an old pc that i haven't used in 5 years or so. I was happy to see that all of my old bookmarks were there. Then it came time to do the firefox updates so the web pages work. when firefox updated I lost all of my bookmarks. I went through all the steps to restore them with no luck. it shows that they were backed up but it gives me an error message saying Unable to be restored. I really want to get those bookmark back. can anyone help?
