I send an e-mail with photo attachments and it says file too big. I don't want to go to my paint program with every photo I e-mail and resize it manually. I want Fire Fox to do it automatically. I have found on Explorer how to set this up on preferences, but not on Fire Fox. Any help would be appreciated. DB

That would be a feature of your email program, not firefox. However, there might be an addon that does that. Look here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

I'm not sure if I did anything to solve this, but I downloaded the add-on from the Mozilla site, and I sent a picture to myself, and I was given the choice to view it with my "windows photo viewer". The name of the add-on is "text-to-image 1.4.2

I did some other searching around on my preferences in my e-mail settings, so I don't really know if the download helped or my other clicking worked. I still am not satisfied with the fix because I have to do additional steps to view one picture at a time instead of just scrolling down to view the pictures after they have downloaded. I still think I need additional help on this problem. Thank you DB

It looks to me as though two things might have been mixed up:

1. If you want to send pictures by e-mail that should not be too large then you have to physically reduce their size, normally by reducing their pixel dimension. This is not a task a browser or an e-mail program is supposed to do. IExplorer will not do it. Adjust settings won't help. Firefox has some add-ons, Text-to-Image is most likely not what you want, search for "resize image" https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=resize+image . But again, this is not the best idea, not what a browser is supposed to do. Usually, there is no way around a good (and/or simple) image viewer such as IrfanView (http://irfanview.com/) for Windows to do this job (Mac, Unix, Linux have plenty of other "built-in" tools to choose from). Why? A photo is an attachment to your mail. Why should Thunderbird or Firefox (assuming you use a Webmail service) care or even know if you attach (too) large files? And it's not the browser or mail software that complains about the photo being too large, but usually your provider/ISP. If that happens there is no way around reducing the photo dimensions before sending, hopefully keeping an original sized copy.

2. If you talk about actually viewing a photo with your browser (or mail programme): both Mozilla products, Firefox and Thunderbird will reduce the view size (not the physical size) automatically to fit your window, unless you click the magnifier icon to zoom in to the image's real size.

I installed the add-on that you suggested, and no luck. Can I go into my picture file and modify all of the pictures in there? Or should I just change the settings on my digital SLR? This will only fix the pictures that I will take from them on, but the ones in my picture file will remain too large. Thank you for your first reply. It was very through, just didn't work. DB

Some websites that can resize images:

Rather than using an add-on (which I'm not sure how good they are) I would probably either go by one of the web services that user cor-el suggested or do it by whatever image viewer/editor you use (IrfanView and others can do batch resizing of an entire folder), probably batch resizing would be fastest. I mean for the images you already have in your image folder.

Changing the settings on your digital SLR is a good idea as long as you need low resolution pics for e-mailing etc. Just remember, this is not such a great idea if you also want to print photos (or process prints by a photo lab), the printing quality won't be as good, especially for larger printout sizes.

Thank you cor al. I found your reply the most helpful. I have already downloaded Irfan view from another reply post but didn't investigate its use yet. I will now. And I agree with you not to change the settings on my camera just to send a few e-mail attachments. Great information. Thanks, DB
