"Subject: Feature Request: Option to Download PDFs as JPGs in Firefox

more options

Dear Firefox Team,

I am writing to suggest a new feature that I believe would significantly enhance the user experience in Firefox.

Currently, when we encounter a PDF file on the web, Firefox only allows us to view or download it as a PDF. It would be incredibly beneficial if, when a user clicks on a PDF link (or during the download prompt), there was an option to choose whether to download the file as a PDF or as a JPG image.

This functionality would save users a considerable amount of time and effort by eliminating the need to use third-party online converters or desktop software to transform PDFs into JPGs. This is particularly useful for extracting images or specific pages from documents for quick sharing, presentations, or website use.

I believe this feature aligns with Firefox's commitment to user convenience and efficiency. Thank you for considering this suggestion."

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or developers. If you want to leave feedback for developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Share ideas and feedback…. Alternatively, you can use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

Two short-term suggestions:

(1) Partial screenshots. You can use Firefox's screenshot feature to capture an image of part of a page for sharing. But this will be in PNG format in most cases.

(2) Bookmarklet. A bookmarklet is a snippet of JavaScript that you inject into a page by clicking a bookmark. Many years ago, I created one to save individual pages of a PDF file as JPEG images. If you want to give it a try, you can find it here:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/sumomarklets.html#pdf2jpg

After you open the PDF and scroll it so you can see all the pages, then click the bookmark. It creates a download link for each page.
