I have Thunderbird set to download emails from the server to 5 different email addresses. The address I use to send & receive the vast majority of my emails suddenly stopped being able to download new emails today. I did nothing to provoke this; made no changes.

When I click "Get Messages", a quick "banner" runs along the bottom of my Thunderbird screen, stating that the program is downloading 52 new emails (or higher number later in the day). This is normal, but the banner flashes onscreen for an instant, and NONE of those emails come in (which is NOT normal).

All I DO get is a repeat copy, or several repeat copies, of the last unique email I received on this account (which came in at 8:59 am today). The repeat emails have identical content; they all have the same 8:59am time stamp; and this email was from a friend -- not a fraud or spam email. No attachments. PLEASE HELP. Thank you!
