This is the message I get when trying to go to YouTube:

Couldn’t sign you in This browser or app may not be secure. Learn more Try using a different browser. If you’re already using a supported browser, you can refresh your screen and try again to sign in.

I have added DuckDuckGo to Firefox for my search engine. Would this be the cause. If not, what do I need to do to resolve?

If you mean the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials extension, that has some content-blocking features which may break various sites. Try clicking its toolbar button while you're on the error page and see whether you can make an exception that allows the site to work normally.
