I have started getting * before the amount of emails in some of my inboxes
I have started getting * before the number of unopened emails in some of my inboxes in thunderbird. It's not really a problem in itself, just don't understand why it's in some and not others.

It indicates that some of the messages being counted may be inside subfolders. It's a hint to the user that he may need to look beyond the obvious Inbox for new messages.
I use View|Folders|Unread so I don't care where the unread messages are hiding.
