I've asked for notifications - but I don't know what the reply subject means.

Thunderbird does not change the subject line. You need to look elsewhere for the cause and reason.

airmail - Tb DOES change the subject line; it inserts Re: or Re:Re: Can we be sure it does not insert Checked: in front of the the original subject line, in response to a request to know if a mail has been opened by the recipient, for example? I looked for information in the Tb online help, but could not track any down on this subject.

Re is standard email protocol. Checked and Spam is not and does not come from Thunderbird.

Just be assured, Thunderbird does not change the subject line of incoming email. Yes I can be sure checked is not coming from Thunderbird.

I would be almost certain it is coming from an anti virus program or a spam tool. something you or your mail provider have installed. They make common practice of annotation of the subject lines with mostly useless information.

Thank you airmail, thank you Matt - that's clearer to me now. I'll have to search elsewhere to know what is adding "Checked" to the subject line and why !
