Firefox sync is small in comparison and it is also a current Mozilla project. Thunderbird is a community project. So as Mozilla will not be paying, are you volunteering?

This has actually been reported before, see the link below to our Bugzilla issue:

bug 446444

Keep an eye on that page for updates on the implementation of the feature.

You do not say what the problem is.

Thunderbird already does what you ask because how else would it work. All Profiles, mail accounts, emails, address books, saved password etc are stored on your computer in the Profile folder. IMAP mail accounts keep mail on the server if you have not saved any emails in local folders. All synchronized folders keep a local copy on your computer, although this is not totally reliable as it will resynch with the server.

Are you saying that everytime you close Thunderbird, all Addons, mail accounts etc etc ..everything is removed and you have to install Thunderbirsd and mail accounts etc etc everytime? This sounds odd and I've not come across this kind of behaviour.

Perhaps you mean that you want to know how to perform a backup of your Profile. Info here:

You can save a backup copy of address books, by selecting the address book then Tools > Export as eg:comma separated .csv file or LDIF.

Maybe I've misunderstood your query.

you guys can't read since when does thunderbird has sync? do you know what sync is? come on ppl have you ever signed in to firefox on a public pc or at work and got your favs and add-ons that is what I mean. No where has this been applied to thunderbird.

basically if I want to check my mail on five different accounts that I have all I want to do is sign in to Thunderbird on let's say X- pc any PC and bang! have all my mails there as well as my add-ons and my address book. just like firfox does when I sign in in let's say my friends PC in another town and Bang! there they are,all my favs,add-ons,my customized tool bar,etc

nothing todo with crap stored in my computer, besides I use 10 different computers at any given day, that is why I asked when is Sync going to be implemented.

Yes I know what sync is, and Thunderbird will not be getting it. Simple really.

If you understood what sync was you would understand there are gigabytes of data in your profile and it would take hours to upload and download. The only time you would contemplate it would be to move to a new device, and then who pays for the bandwidth to move your multiple Gigabytes of data into the cloud and back, it would have to be a subscription service with a monthly fee. There are lots of subscription services on the internet already who will sync your data for a fee. So no sync for Thunderbird.

then, who's paying my Firefox bill? if Firefox has Sync for free I don't see why Thunderbird doesn't leave it to beaver one day it will be here :)
