I have been using Thunderbird for ages now with no problem, but I suddenly realised that no recent emails were appearing from my Gmail account. I have tried everything suggested on line to resolve the problem, including uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird, and deleting and re-entering my acccount details but neither the IMAP or SMTP servers will connect to Gmail. I have reset all of the server settings on Thunderbird, and have checked that Gmail is IMAP compliant (which, apparently, is is now automatically). I have spent hours trying to sort this out and am just at the point of abandoning Thunderbird completely, but I am loathe to do so if there is a solution. The latest error message i have received is "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password" but I don't know what else I can check or change.

I have been trying to add new email accounts to Thunderbird and they never complete the process (I have several that configured correctly prior to this error). I have tried both automated methods (With and without HUB) and the manual method of adding an account. Here is what is happening. When I add an account, I can watch Thunderbird login to the account on the status line. The login goes correctly, however the "Done" tab is always greyed out, the process never completes. I then try configure the account manually at the same screen and I get "the server is already in use" message. I believe that Thunderbird is not correctly closing the connection, leading to the "server is already in use" message, but I am not sure how to correct the issue.

Using TB 140.8.1 esr(64 bit) on Win11 Home desktop. My internet speed: About 40 Mbps up and down. All routine Win and TB updates installed when available. No changes in configuration, accounts, settings etc. except installing routine updates to TB and Win11. No problem with sending/receiving email. Sent mails go out immediately and appear right away in my sent folder. No problem receiving USENET news new postings to subscribed groups. I'm subscribed to 3 groups, using news.eternal-september.org. It used to be that when I wrote a reply to a post in a thread the msg would be sent within a few seconds. Recently and consistently, when I post to a group, pop-up notification tells me msg is being assembled. But progress appears to stall and msg often takes an hr. or more to appear in sent folder. Sometimes, it never appears in my sent folder but I can see it was sent because subsequent new postings to the same thread often cite my text and/or reply to it. My sent configuration: outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com port: 465 user name: my gmail email address - which works fine using google's web interface or TB authentication: OAuth2 connection security: SSL/TLS Any idea what's wrong? Any suggestions what to try to get back to prompt processing of sent postings to subscribed USENET groups?
