When I try to attach a file on Firefox, instead of the attachment icon appearing, search box just shows the trail of file location with no file attaching.

It really depends on how the website is doing the uploading (e.g., old style HTML uploader, Flash uploader). Can you indicate which site that is?

It happens on any website that has an "attach file" button. LinkedIn is one of them-I've attached resumes that never went through. The one above is this website on Tumbler: http://mckaylaisnotimpressed.tumblr.com/submit/

Firefox has some security restrictions on websites peeking at local files before they are uploaded. Therefore, it is normal not to see a preview on most sites. However, the upload should still work when you submit the form. Does the upload work?

I think Flash uploaders can work around this because Flash (and other plugins) can bypass Firefox's normal security restrictions for web pages. Also, sites adopting HTML5 code might have access to some new ways to do it.

How can I tell if the upload is working if all I see is the trail of the location of the file? Once I press send, I have no idea if the file was attached or sent because a file icon never appears, just the file location.

Good point. In email you can check the Sent Items to see whether the attachment was successful, but on a web form, it depends on the site design whether you can see what actually got uploaded/sent when you submitted the form. Often people will let you know if they didn't get an attachment that you mentioned.

You could try the new Reset feature. This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your plugins such as media players will still be active.

More information in this article: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

If the new settings folder has the same problem, you can switch back if you like using Firefox's Profile Manager. (This article describes how to start Firefox in the profile manager. I do not recommend removing anything until you are 110% certain that you will never need any of that profile's data in the future. Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles)

Does it make any difference?

I will check them out. Thanks for the quick replies. Worst case scenario- I can use Firefox for everything and if I need to attach a file for any reason, I can switch over to a different browser to attach.

Oh, forgot to add, I don't have a problem attaching files in any email services I use in Firefox, just websites asking for attachments.
