Why can't Firefox 7 can'handle French characters?
I upgraded to Firefox 7 today, and it can't handle French accented characters; I haven't had this problem with earlier versions of Firefox when viewing the same website.
I'm using Windows XP SP3 on a Toshiba laptop.
The website works fine in Internet Exploder; it's never a good sign when something works better in IE.
Is this glitch due to something in the upgrade?

Make sure that you have selected the correct Western (ISO-8859-1) encoding.
- Firefox > Web Developer > Character Encoding
- View > Character Encoding
The web server is probably using the wrong encoding. Do you have a particular URL I can test? My French web sites look OK in Firefox 7.
The problem has somehow resolved itself.
I checked my encoding, and it was set properly. I checked the website in Internet Exploder, and it was working yesterday where Firefox was not. Today, Firefox has no trouble with the same webpage.
Thanks anyway.
If it happens again then reload the web page(s) and bypass the cache.
- Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
- Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)
