Closed Tab Groups can't be found
I had multiple tab groups which I had chosen to save and close. These tab groups have now completely disappeared and I cannot find them. When I began using Tab Groups, I had checked and there was no information stating that unopened tab groups would be deleted. I want these groups back. If I had known Tab Groups would disappear, I would have saved my tabs into a folder. The only Tab Groups that show up now are under "Recent tab groups". If tab groups are going to be deleted after a set period of time, it should be stated clearly in the tab group settings. It would also be really useful to archive them into a bookmarked folder so people don't unexpectedly lose hours of research.

I do have the "List all tabs" button on my toolbar. The closed tab groups, that I am trying to access, showed under "Recent tab groups" in "List all tabs" initially. However, now that time has passed I can no longer find those tab groups there.

They do not disappear deliberately or after any period of time — however they are stored with other tabs in session restore snapshots… Haven't you recently encountered a tab loss after a restart perhaps? That would be when the tab groups also vanished.

Generally if you follow help articles pertaining to restoring sessionstore from older versions/backups, the tab groups should be there as well.
i found my old tab groups eventually using the session restore snaphshot! i am waiting for the next version release as i think this may be what caused them to disappear. as you said, they don't disappear deliberately or after a period of time so it's the only explanation i (person who knows nothing about coding and websites) can come up with.
i'm not sure if i should mark what you said as solution just cause it may be a bug related to the updates which could need fixing by mozilla? idk let me know if i should mark it as solved and raise this elsewhere (and let me know where to raise it please!!)
They should not disappear on update, but apparently are not restored after a crash — there's a nice fix shipping in v158: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1973441 in a few weeks for that.
If you can figure out a scenario, or provide some logs (there's sessionstore-logs written based on verbosity setttings: support.mozilla.org/questions/1596774#answer-1838018 …) it could be helpful if you add that perhaps to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2063477 which currently is in this "mystery startup vanishing" state, so might be a good place to collect data points or reproduction steps.
