Since a few weeks I have a problem Firefox and also Internet explorer not opening by just double clicking it. I see the loading circle but nothing happends. I tried to open it with the "Open as administrator option and this works. Problem is... I'm a webdesigner and I can't open my own websites I saved on my computer because I don't have the option "Open as administrator" to choose. I aslo have a few crash problems with Firefox lately. Not everyday. I tried a few helping options on de Firefox homepage but nothing works. I tried looking at the properties of firefox but I have no clue what I need to change and IF I need to change. I also uninstalled Firefox and Installed it again but nothing will fix it. Please can someone help me I have a deadline to meet!

Are you an administrator on your User Account? Firefox won't start - find solutions may help you.

Seems like your security settings have been changed. To give all users (you) permission to run FF without being ADMIN, go to the program files of your system and find the Mozilla FireFox folder. In that folder right click on firefox.exe to get the properties window open. Select the Security Tab and you'll see a list "Group or user names:". Select Users and the box below will show permissions for the users. Check 'Full Control' Allow. Then any users of that machine has full control over FF. You may need to add youself to the Permisson for users list. Click the edit button find your users name or just Users and click add check of Allow Full Control.

I am an administrator and I've already tried that link but it won't help :(

Thanks for your help! I've already tried this too but nothing seems to work. I added a new user account on my computer also as an administrator and I don't seem to have any problems with the browsers on that account. Still need to fix the problem on my original account since all my files are in there. I can't find a solution anywhere!

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.

Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\). If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator.

Both "Run this program as Administrator" and "Run this program in compatibility" are not selected. Still won't work.. :(

Here are some screenshots to help you visualize what you have to do to be the OWNER of FF. It's not a FF issue, it's a Windows Issue. You don't have your permissions set right.

http://www.magicwebs.com/screenshots.html Disregard the Google Analytics screenshots. They are for something else.

thanks for helping me out so much! I made some screenshots so you can see what I'm looking at. (only thing it's in Dutch but explanation is in English). I did everything you you did in your screenshots, problem isn't fixed. :( http://i47.tinypic.com/x0ogzo.jpg

The security settings look OK to me.

You can still try to remove all Firefox rules in the firewall and other security software to reset the settings to the default and make the software ask for permission.
Make sure that you allow the plugin-container as well in your security software.

You can check for problems caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and possibly downgrade to Flash 11.2 or 10.3 or disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 or disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin.
