while at a link the address starts flashing then the address multiplies itself end to end until I lose the link and a window opens saying the address is too long for the address bar. I then hit the back arrow return to the correct link.

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
