How do I stop the constant Software Update windows from appearing multiple times each day. I don't care to update my current version.
Version 4.0.1 is running just fine. Not interested in the constant updates to new versions. Now I get a Software Update window appearing several times a day telling me to upgrade to version 5.0.1. How do I stop this Browser arms race?

You should always update to the latest version to get the latest patches (bug fixes) and security update.
Firefox 6 will be released in a week (Aug 16), so you can wait for that version.
There will be more releases following this year and all will show as a major version jump (6,7,8).
Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Update: "Automatically check for updates":
Cor-el's right. you should update your softwares when there's an update available cause these Updates Fix various Security and Stability issues. However if you like to live in the Stone Ages see this :-P
