Why can I not turn search suggestions off any more?
I all ways have had search suggestions turned of in FireFox and still do but now I am getting search suggestions on the new tab page (google) on the Google search site and Duckduckgo. Even though I still have firefox settings set to not show suggestions. Is this a current bug that will be fixed in the future?

The Firefox's option Show search suggestions is applicable only to the URL bar, it doesn't change anything on Google/DDG search site.
Did it not use to be the case that it did use to control the search suggestions on the new tab page and search engine pages?
