School server at a school with no IT help. No admin and no way to reset the password. All school related material is sent via this address. If I upgraded to windows 10 will I be locked out?

Before you update, back up the Thunderbird folder, located at:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

AppData is hidden by default. After the update, check AppData to see if the TB folder is still there. If it isn't, simply copy your backup into Roaming, and install the TB program, if it has been removed.

Whatever happens, the backed up Thunderbird folders contains all your data, including mail, contact, passwords etc., and is all you need to restore your email setup, besides the program.
