how do i see local and recent folders

I have folders under local folders, recent folders and inbox. Seems the only time I can see local or recent folders is when I am creating a new folder. How do I access them to see if I already have folder. I am not very computer literate. I created two folders today. They showed up then disappeared.

Are you subscribed to them. Go to File-Subscribe and check. Where are you creating these folders?
