On Sunday, May 7, my Thunderbird program suddenly stopped responding (neither the shortcut nor the program itself will run); clicking on the shortcut icon or attempting to open or run the program itself causes the "loading" or spinning wheel icon to pop up, run for about 10 seconds, then stop.

I've used Thunderbird as an email client for my Sonic email account on my pc for over 8 years without any difficulties until now, and now seem to be locked out of my Thunderbird account. I cannot access it to confirm the version, although I believe it is current, since it appears to update automatically.

My Sonic account continues to function normally, but I keep (save) all incoming and outgoing emails in my Thunderbird system and now am unable to access any of those, and unable to access my Thunderbird account at all..

I've consulted with Sonic over this; Sonic maintains that any difficulty must be on my end connecting to Thunderbird, and suggested that I might have changed the account password. However, I have not changed the password, etc.

Please help asap.

Subject: Persistent Column and Folder Layout Issues — Not Being Saved Between Sessions

This is a follow-up to my previous support requests regarding two ongoing problems that significantly impact daily usability.

Column Settings I manage multiple accounts, and my preferred column layout is: Starred, Read Status, Attachment, Subject, From, and Date/Time. I do not use Threads, Correspondents, or Spam Status columns. Despite setting these preferences repeatedly, Thunderbird fails to retain them. Every day I must spend time reconfiguring columns across some or all of my accounts — the state varies unpredictably from one session to the next. This is a persistent, daily frustration that costs meaningful time. Most other major email clients save and reliably maintain column preferences. I'd expect Thunderbird to do the same.

Folder Panel Layout Two problems occur regularly when Thunderbird loads:

Folder order — Standard system folders (Inbox, Sent, Drafts, All Mail, Trash, Spam) should appear at the top of each account. Instead, Sent, All Mail, Trash, and/or Spam are frequently scattered among custom folders, with no apparent consistency.

Folder expansion — Most or all folders load in an expanded state, exposing every nested sub-folder regardless of whether they contain unread mail. This creates unnecessary visual clutter and requires manual collapsing each session.

Again, this behavior is uncommon in other widely-used email clients. Summary These are not one-time glitches — they recur daily and represent a significant usability gap. I'd appreciate confirmation that these are known issues being tracked, or guidance on a reliable fix. Reformatting the interface every morning is not a reasonable expectation for users.

Tried getting help from SPAMfighter, but they are closed for the day. I uninstalled SPAMfighter and reinstalled. No luck. No toolbar. Is this version of Thunderbird, (151.0.1 64-bit) having issues with SPAMfighter as some of the previous versions have had?

Hi, I can receive emails (via satellite internet) but not send. I logged on to my email provider and I can send emails from there but not from here. any ideas?????

I am moving my Thunderbird (32 bit) data from an old Win 7 computer to Linux Mint on a new machine with Thunderbird 64 bit. I have followed all the advice to copy the old computer profile to the profile folder in Mint, but nothing appears in Thunderbird. My pop3 email server has 2-factor authentication; I can set this up and access or send new emails, but I can't import all my old email folders. The old Thunderbird is version 115.18.0 (32 bit) and says it is "up to date on esr update channel" The Mint Thunderbird is 140.0.6 esr (64 bit) and was recently installed with Mint.

As these versions are 32 bit and 64 bit respectively, I don't see how I can make them the same version, as recommended for transferring profiles.

How can I make this work?

I just started using Thunderbird about a month ago having switched from Gmail. I've tried to forward a few emails to my personal gmail account but they are not going through. Any suggestions.

Old win 10 computer with Thunderbird pop account. Want to move all saved e-mails from old computer to new computer. New computer (win 11) installed thunderbird as an IMAP account. Alternatively, if not practical, how to save old e-mail in readable format. Thanks

I have 6 email accounts linked to Thunderbird. I noticed today on one of the accounts, along with inbox, drafts, sent, etc., there is now a spam icon. I didn't change any settings or even look at that email account today. This is the only account with that icon and it won't allow me to delete it. All settings between all accounts are the same, just this dang spam fire icon that I can't delete

a power shortage messed up my computer and i had to re-install thunderbird. now when i type in the initial letters of an address that is in my address book, thunderbird no longer completes the address.

I have Thunderbird installed for lots of users on windows 11. Recent updates caused Thunderbird to ask again to set as default, as is normal. However, if you ask it to set as default it brings up a UAC dialog. However, I have installed as a user, and am asking to change a user setting. UAC is inappropriate for the situation.

If I ask Thunderbird to uninstall is again pops up a UAC dialog even though it is not necessary and inappropriate.

Why is Thunderbird asking for more permissions?

I installed as the current user with default installer settings.

Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox.

All my other emails work fine, same computer same "Local Folder"

I did Edit - Find - Search Messages and then Edit - Find- Global Search and searched for messages. Now all the e-mails in my Inbox disappeared. What can I do? Thank you.

I live in Germany and use t-online for my email. I can receive emails but not send. I have tried to fix it myself but nothing I do has worked. I don't understand all the technical stuff, so this is maybe my problem. Can anyone help me? PLEASE

Maybe there is someone near me in Germany (Obertshausen) by Frankfurt that can Help. I speak German so this would not be a problem.

I have a Google Workspace account which has my company name as a suffix, ie. @chase-design.net NOT @gmail. com. When I try to add an account automatically using the company suffix, Thunderbird does not recognize it. Is there a set-up guide that shows me step by step how to manually configure that type of setup?

Hi, I accidentally deleted all my emails on my desktop. I was in Account Settings and pressed the red "Delete" button that appears next to the account name on the screen. I was trying to reset the email account settings but when i pressed delete, the mail account and all my old messages were deleted from my desktop.

I do see a file in the folder in User/appdata/roaming/thunderbird/profiles.../mail/mail.server.co.za that says "Inbox" and I THINK that might be my old emails but I can't seem to get Thunderbird to open the file. I've tried using ImportExportNG but it still won't open that file.

Is there a way to recover my old emails without having to take my computer to a specialist?

I don't wish to use the calendar that comes with Thunderbird, but instead continuing with my Macintosh iCal.

1) How do I switch off the Thunderbird calendar function? 2) How do I get the calendar invitations sent to me as an ICS file attachments, that I can open in Mac iCal. Just like in Airmail and in Microsoft Outlook.
