Support,

I have just set up my Thunderbird Client, and was wondering if I could forward or filter all emails coming to my inbox to a secondary sub-folder?

Please let me know if you need any further details.

Thank you

Emails get downloaded to Inbox. You have created various folders for organising and storage. eg: Family, Friends, Hobby Groups, Online Orders etc

It would be convenient if emails could be automatically filtered eg: You want emails sent by family members to auto get put in the 'Family' folder.

  • Menu icon ≡ > 'Tools' > 'Message Filters'
  • click on 'New'
  • Give filter a suitable name : Family
  • Select 'Manually Run'
  • Select 'Getting new mail'
  • Select 'Filter before junk Classification'
  • Assuming you want to add more than one email address - select 'Match any of the following'
  • Choose 'From' and 'contains' and type the first part of email address or enter full email address.
  • (I have several people on one side of family and all of them have the surname in the first part of email address - the bit before the @ but use different servers eg: gmail, hotmail etc - so using surname works in this senario)
  • Click on the small + sign to the right and a new line appears.
  • Enter another condition: 'From' 'contains' and type email address.

Perform these actions:

  • Choose 'Move Message to' and choose the 'Family on mail account' folder.
  • click on 'OK'

Make sure the 'Enabled' checkbox for that filter is selected. Note: filters are applied in the order listed.

Recommend you enable the Filter Log.

  • Click on 'Filter Log' button
  • It opens in new window - select the checkbox 'Enable the Filter Log'
  • click on 'Close'

You can test a filter on a specific folder - let's say you have emails from family members in the Inbox. In list Highlight/select the 'Family' filter you created Run selected filters on: select - 'Inbox on mail account' click on 'Run Now'

You can see what is logged in the 'Filter Log' You can see what was moved from Inbox to Family.
