This question has been up before. And then the fix was to disable some accessibility features both under options privacy and in about:config. These solutions worked fine. But then 57.0.2 came and the problems reappeared. I have checked that the settings that previously worked is still in effect as described in the former fix, and it is. So what do I have to do now for this annoying error in the software to stop?

Go and update your video card drivers directly from intel/AMD/nVidia and restart

start firefox and type "about:support" then click "refresh firefox" near the top right.

Once FIrefox is loaded again go back into about:support an see is Compositing is D3D 11 or Basic. If it says basic, go into your "about:config" and look for the enty "layers.acceleration.force-enabled" and set to "True" and restart Firefox

An update after some time with this problem. The problem solves itself after a day or two. And reappears every time Firefox updates. I have discovered a peculiarity around this error. Opening a new tab freezes Firefox for 5-10 seconds, but only for the first two openings. The third time opening new tab it works fine (ie I have total four tabs open in Firefox). Every opening of new tabs after this is also normal. Closing all but one tab and we are back to the freezing until we have three tabs open.

So I wonder what this could be that fixes itself after a day or two, but reappears every update.
