Sync not working (Windows 10) no sync at all from my other 3 pcs to the new one - any ideas?

So I am setting up my new PC. I am trying to get sync to work. No luck - I have logged in (no problem) and I get the message that sync will start momentarily, but nothing happens - it just goes away and I have all the default bookmarks etc. still. I've tried logging out and back into sync, manually clicking sync, editing the about:(iforgetwhatitscalled) to record successful events, I've rebooted - basically everything short of uninstalling FF. Ideas please...:-(
