In Thunderbird Preferences > Attachments > Incoming you can specify what your computer should do with attached files of any given type. Just tell it to use a different app to open and read PDFs. If you don't want to use the one made by Adobe I believe there are several others available, some of them free of charge.

In Thunderbird Preferences > Attachments > Incoming you can specify what your computer should do with attached files of any given type. Just tell it to use a different app to open and read PDFs. If you don't want to use the one made by Adobe I believe there are several others available, some of them free of charge.
