I am Using iCal so all apple devices sync calendar. But invites come as mime.ics attachment and I can only download on iPhone. That works but then these accepted invites don't show up on my other devices. I've now downloaded the lightning add-on which seems able to accept & download invites on my iMac, but then it shows up only in lightning, not iCal. Anyone suggest a good solution?

you need to set lightning up with a caldav connection to a caldav source on the internet such as that includes ical. Unfortunately you have to play hide and seek with apple to get the url you need.

this discussion contains all the right elements to get it working, but ignore the actual solution. It might have made that unfortunate happy, but it will only create a read only calendar. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414939?tstart=0
