since the last update, to firefox 33.something, this tab keeps opening on its own, warning me that i need to upate to their latest something. this is not opening in response to my choosing some other tab, it seems to happen spontaneously, while i am in the middle of whatever i am doing.

when the tab first opens, it shows about:blank, when the page opens, telling me i should update firefox through them, it is http://software.updatergo.com/?source=internalp#!p&component=displaysettings

hello mamachills, unfortunately this sound like an issue with adware on your pc, so please perform all these steps:

  1. reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.
