Recently I received v12.0. Now when I log on, I am greeted with a quick window that claims to check compatibility of ad-ons. Then, the browser opens to a "Welcome to Firefox" Tab which I must forcibly close. In previous updates, closing this Tab was a one-time action and did not re-appear with each opening. How can I permanently get rid of these two new nuisances?

I think there might have been a problem during the upgrade to Firefox 12.0. This can sometimes happen with the upgrading processes and I would therefore recommend you to reinstall Firefox and let me know how it goes.
