I have to force quit every time I shut down the computer because Firefox gets hung up

I shut my Mac laptop down every night. When I do, I always have to 'force quit' because the application won't quit on its own. When I turn my computer on the next day, it offers to restart the previous session. I wonder why it is that the application won't quit on its own, or what website is causing the problem.
