Logging onto FireFox (also MIE) takes 5-8 minutes. Most recent antivirus screens (AVG) and malware screens (Spyware Doctor) are clean. In addition logging onto various other offline apps (e.g., registry repair) is slow or does not happen at all. My e-address: mozartinasharp38@yahoo.com

Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Thanks for your suggestion. But, right after I posted the question, I defragged and cleaned up the registry, and now Fire Fox (and MIE) and apps are behaving properly. My C drive was verrrrrry fragmented, and I had over 300 registry errors.
