Sending Tabs to a Linux Desktop causes that Desktop to freeze

Whenever i send a Tab from any Device to a Linux Desktop, the Linux Desktop is almost guaranteed to freeze. It doesn’t matter if that Linux Desktop is my "Dingus" PC with 2GB RAM and Wayland, or my "Workstation" PC with 16GB RAM and X11. On both Desktops, Firefox runs smoothly until it gets sent a Tab from another Device, then the whole Linux Desktop freezes. The Desktop doesn’t slow if i open the Tab on the Desktop in the “Tabs from other Devices” Sidebar instead.

Only my Linux Desktops freeze when they get sent a Tab from another Device. Android doesn’t slow when my Phone gets sent a Tab from another Device.

I just noticed this Post landed in the “Firefox for Android” Category. As a first‑Time Support Forum User, i didn’t know the mobile Versions of Firefox have their own Categories. May a Moderator please move this Post to the Firefox for Desktop Category?

After some more Testing, this may be more a YouTube Problem than a Firefox Problem.

My Workstation freezes when it gets approx 20 YouTube Tabs at once, my Dingus has a high Chance of freezing when it gets just one YouTube Tab.

Most other Websites, which are much better‑optimized for all Devices, do not risk freezing my Linux Desktops after they get them from “Send to Device”.

Hi Poppy

I moved your question as requested - thank you for letting us know.

Does this only happen when you send a single YouTube from mobile to desktop?

It doesn’t matter if i send a YouTube Tab from my Android Phone or from my Linux Workstation. If my Linux Dingus receives that Tab, it risks freezing so that i have to force Shutdown by long‑pressing the Power Button. Restarting my Dingus and opening Firefox again, it’s fine, but during the first Session that my Dingus got a YouTube Tab from another Device then it may freeze the Desktop.

Opening a Tab directly on my Dingus from the “Tabs from other Devices” Sidebar works much better. YouTube still stutters too much but it doesn’t freeze the Desktop. In this Situation, i don’t have to restart the full System, only Firefox itself, to restore full Performance. Though when i pressed [Ctrl]+[Q], the Firefox Window got a black Tint fast but then it took another 4 Minutes to close.
