The previously opaque/white search widget suddenly became transparent and disappears into my home screen. I didn't enable this, but I can't find the setting to make it opaque/white again.

Searched for "widget," "search," "transparen" in about:config, toggled various settings, nothing worked. Looked in secret settings, nothing.

Really bad implementation decision: don't change user's existing UI just because you, or other users, like it and think it's a good idea. Opt in, not opt out.

Hi

Thank you for helping to test the Nightly version of Firefox for Android. Please appreciate that this version will have one or two unresolved issues as the app is still in development.

Does this issue occur for you in the main Release version of Firefox for Android?

Hi Paul,

I'll install the release version and let you know, but here's an interesting thing: I have the same nightly version installed on an android 10 device and the search widget is still opaque. google misbehaving again? Something android 10 vs. 14?

Thanks, Tim

Hi Paul,

Just to follow up, I installed the release version on the android 14 device and the search widget is opaque/white.

Firefox for Android recently updated the search widget design, and the new transparent style is applied automatically with **no setting to change it back** at the moment. It isn’t something you turned on, and unfortunately there’s currently no about:config flag or hidden option to restore the old opaque/white version. The only workaround is to delete the widget and re-add it, which sometimes restores the default styling depending on launcher/theme—otherwise you’ll need to wait for Mozilla to add a customization option.

Hi Grace,

Thank you for your reply. See my comment at the end of my original post. (And, the widget on my android 10 device is now also transparent.)

I doubt that this machine generated answer is correct. I still have gray background on my Samsung. It can be theme-specific or launcher-specific issue.

Latest build, 147.0a1 (Build #2016128199), appears to have restored the opaque white search widget.
