Hi John While it is true that Google does pay Mozilla to be a search engine choice in Firefox (worth noting you can change to just about any search engine you wish to use), Firefox is a separate browser. We used our own browser engine, not the one other browsers use, and are not beholden to a large corporate organisation. Firefox is provided by the Mozilla Corporation, which is connected to the Mozilla Foundation which works to make the web open and accessible to all.
