This specific problem seemed to occur after a driver update with GeForce Experience. A driver update from Dell.com seems to have fixed the problem.

NOTE: killing Firefox through Task Manager reduces the amount of RAM used by this process, but it is still an outrageous quantity and a recurring problem. I would rather not have to restart my browser every hour to fix a symptom of a deeper problem.

There's GPU failure with this Intel Iris XE. It switches to software composing (CPU). It look like you have also an NVIDIA card. Try to run Firefox with this GPU.
