Sometimes it's necessary to set TB as default in more than one place in W10. In Settings/Apps/Default apps, click 'Set defaults by app', select Thunderbird in the list, then click 'Set this program as default' and click 'Choose defaults for this program' and make sure every item is checked including MAPI. Save, OK, and then see if attaching photos to email works.
