Mac Users: How can I watch YouTube again on Firefox, when for months all I get is a black screen and no controls?
Beyond frustrated here. I can watch YouTube on Safari (I have a MacBook Pro laptop, OS 10.6.8), but I use Firefox, for everything else, so really need YouTube access on Firefox. I have googled the problem a zillion times and find solutions that do not work.
Today in several places, including here at Firefox, the instruction is to uncheck the "Enable Hardware Acceleration" box which is found when you right-click (two-finger click on my trackpad) on the black YouTube screen. Then click on Settings, which brings up a display box. In the display box I'm supposed to be able to uncheck the hardware acceleration. And I see it there in front of me.
But it's dead to my trackpad! The Enable Hardware Acceleration will not uncheck when I click on its tiny box. It's supposed to be active, but nothing I do in that display box works--even the close button. I've refreshed the page, tried clicking the icons on it, nothing works.
Can you imagine no YouTube for months? It's driving me crazy. PLEASE help, I will be so grateful! Thanks~~

Upgrade your browser to Firefox 8 and check
Thank you for replying. I've now upgraded to Firefox 8 ... and still am getting nothing but a black screen and no controls on YouTube. I went to the link you gave me, but I was there several times before posting in the first place. No solution there--and I tried every one that was possible--has worked for me.
Can anyone else help? YouTube doesn't help, my Flash is up to date and they can't help. It's a Firefox problem, yes? I'm about to chuck Firefox overboard and move on to Safari or another browser. This is ridiculous.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Try to disable the hardware acceleration in the Flash Player.

Thanks cor-el, but I tried those a few days ago (read them in another support forum or post). I did succeed in disabling the hardware acceleration and checking the effects of add-ons, with no luck ... Does anyone know if all the other people who had this problem this year have resolved it? There were many of them, and it seemed to be a Firefox+Youtube combo problem that Firefox was working on. I cannot find a solution that works.
