FireFox keeps locking up. No links work, and pages take quite a bit of time to load. This only started after the update.

Same problem with FF locking up mainly of Facebook with the Social Fixer Add-On installed..

Try starting FF while pressing the Shift key - FF will start with all addons and extensions disabled. Then try reproducing your problems. If you still see them, at least you can discount them as a cause your problems.

The majority of the time, when I open up Firefox, it will launch and appear on the process list of Task Manager, however, the window itself will not open and I must end the process from TM. When it does happen to open the window, the window will stay white, gray, or black and ends up becoming unresponsive. When I open it in safe-mode, the window opens normally and everything appears fine but within 2 - 5 seconds, the window will hang and become unresponsive. Resetting, re-installing, and creating new profiles does not work. The only time Firefox works correctly is the first launch after re-installing. Every launch following that, even with no addons installed, leads to original problem. I am running Win7 x64.

If you have crashes please first of all read

Hi Breuer100,

I guess you have read the above linked article as you have posted Crash IDs. Unfortunately they are not ones where I recognise any solution. Skeezix suggested you try safe mode have you tried that yet ?

Did safemode help or not ? If Firefox is still crashing in safemode could you post a few of the crash IDs obtained whilst in safe mode. (I normally suggest a couple, but as you are getting variable crash signatures I suggest you try to obtain another 5).

Should that not give an indication of the cause, probably the next steps are:
( test firefox between step 1 and 2)

  1. whilst in safe mode disable any plugins
  2. try a clean profile
see Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles_creating-a-profile

If you are lucky the safe mode, crash IDs may give a clue to a more specific cause/solution.

Disconnect your computer from the internet, IE unplug the fire wire cat 5 cable to your modem. Start Firefox, with it disconnected from the internet, click on the option tab. Disable Adobe Flash. Go to tools, then add-ons, and disable Adobe Flash. Restart Firefox, plug back in the internet cable, and verify that it does not hang or crash. (Note it will say missing plug-in for any flash items on that page... ignore it for now). Close Firefox... After it is closed, you need to right click on the firefox start up icon, go into properties, click on the compatibilities tab, and put a check in the "Run This Program As An Administrator" box, then hit apply. Start Firefox, and enable the adobe flash plugin. It should work OK. Problem is...each time you upgrade firefox and/or I think Adobe flash... you need to make sure that the "run as admin" box is checked and applied before start up or it will hang.

cutmetal I tried this as well as various other solutions, all to the same effect, Waterfox worked fine however, so I concluded that it must be a conflict caused by a plugin but I decided to just reinstall windows anyways and that got around the problem.

Thanks for the post, as a potential solution. As I mentioned elsethread I doubt it is a universal solution, and probably does not help many users.
