I got the SafeSearch Malware/Virus. It has hijaked my fierfox, how do i get rid of it?

Hi. When I start firefox it does not go to my homepage, instead it goes to safesearch.net site. I have found several Virus & malware programs to cleanup my pc(WindowsXp). The program has been deleted form my pc, But FireFox still starts in SafeSearch page. I tried to uninstall/reinstall firefox, but that didn't help. the uninstall process does not uninstall Firefox completely. I still have all my Bookmarks, passwords, .... How do I get rid of safesearch in firefox? How Do I remove firefox completly and reinstall firefox? Thanks Sam

Keazen oplossing

Reset the prefs that control this to see if it helps:

  • Go to about:config
  • Press the button saying you'll be careful.
  • Search for browser.startup.homepage
  • Reset it by right clicking > Modify
