FF doesn't open the "print" menu or the "open file" menu after updating to 27.0.1 on WinXP

Can't get to the printer selection dialog box when going to file then print... Instead I get a windows critical error sound but no messages. Same when going to file then open file... Tried uninstalling and reinstalling fresh version 27.0.1 but get same results. Also was not able to "browse" for files when trying to do email attachments. For now I have uninstalled version 27 and loaded version 26 and all is working.

Running Windows XP pro SP3 have reproduced on 4 pc's all running winxp pro sp3. Rolling all of these pc's back to version 26 fixed these problems.

I am having the same problem!!

Well I managed to find a few other folks out there with same issues. And I had all the same problems mentioned here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2801993&sid=074c1901fb3fc507b20ff1855a6275c4

I discovered that when booting into Windows safe mode I didn't have any of these problems... So I started looking into my anti-virus protection and found that is seems to be interfering with FF.

We use a product called K7 Endpoint Security and if I disable both the Browser Protection and Exploit Protection FF 27 seems to work fine. Maybe this helps others?

Question now is there anything with FF 27 that might be the culprit? I'd prefer not to disable any anti-virus protection features.

This could be related to my problem. I'm NOT going to turn off McAfee so I might try to go back to the previous version of Firefox until they get this issue resolved.

Hi lcatoire, did you just update from Firefox 27.0 to Firefox 27.0.1, or did you jump straight? I will message you a link to install Firefox 27.0 so you can reinstall that if it was working for you.

For users running Firefox 27.0 or 27.0.1, if you need a safe link for Firefox 26, use this article: Install an older version of Firefox.

Yes I did recently update to 27.0.1. I don't recall having problems before updating. Thanks for the link on installing an older version. I'll try that and report back if that resolved my problems. Thanks again!

hello, other affected users have reported that this was caused by their avast security software, can you switch to a different program?

I tried backing down from version 27.0.1 to 27.0 but after an hour or so of browsing, my problem returned. I'll try going back to v 26.

I would try opening in Safe Mode and turning off my McAfee, but I don't like browsing without security. If that's the problem, turning off security is not the long term answer.

Hi lcatoire, you should not need to turn off your security software. However, the browser add-ons that are included with your security software sometimes turn out to have serious compatibility problems. Disabling one or more of those usually has only a marginal impact on your overall security. But it's your call. (Personally, if an extension prevented me from printing, I would have to disable it.)
