Why does Firefox front page tell me I am not using the latest version when the 'about' in the help menu says that I am?

I updated Firefox 2 days ago after seeing the message that I wasn't using the latest version. Download and installation were successful and everything appears to work as normal except that I still have a message on my Firefox home page telling me that I am not using the latest version. If, on the other hand, I navigate to 'Firefox' - 'Help' - 'About Firefox' I am told that I am running Firefox 8.0.1 and "Firefox is up to date".

You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. It appears that page is no longer being maintained. You appear to have Firefox 8.0.1 installed which is the latest version.

If you want the Google search page as your home page, change your home page to about:home (a new, updated version is now built-in to Firefox).
