i'm aware of Session Manager, but it demands that i load a saved session upon startup. i'm looking for something that has the OPTION of restoring the last session in case firefox crashes or i stupidly close it. it's done in Chrome via Session Buddy, but sadly, that isn't developed for firefox.

any ideas?

Firefox 4.0 automatically saves the last session. You can use Restore Previous Session on the default about:home homepage or use History > Restore Previous Session to load that session, if you are using a different homepage. Keep in mind that Firefox 4.0 doesn't save a previous session beyond the new session, like a session manager extension will.

Firefox has saved "crashed sessions" for a few years already, and as of Firefox 3.6 gave you the option of which pages you want restored the next time you open Firefox.

Actually session manager does have this ability builtin although perhaps somehow it got turned off on your machine. Under the session Manager options SessionStore tab there's a Enable Crash Recovery checkbox that should be checked.
