Needs example URL that fails for others to try to verify the problem if it's Browser or site issue or Addon caused issues of download or security software blocking.

It is possible that (anti-virus) security software is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

here is an example of a URL which yielded 'download failed' error message, several times over on 06Nov22. it is supposed to be a .exe file. https://ebikes.ca/webapps/file_downloader/?file=CASoftware_Windows

i tried downloading it thru Edge and it went, but i got a warning that it was an infrequently downloaded file, and it showed up in my downloads folder with a totally different name, 'Unconfirmed 445170.crdownload' and would not run when i attempted to execute it.

i have also had .pdf 'fail' on download. i tried changing in General Settings to 'ask whether to open or save file' and that did not seem to make a difference thank you

ps. also unchecked 'block dangerous downloads', no change there either

Downloads fail since latest update. PDF, JPGS & ZIPS - from all sites. Not a blocking software Chrome is downloading fine.

I am an avid Firefox user so any insight would be helpful. Browser says up to date.
