Hi adrenalinschool, please ignore the spam message promoting an unofficial phone number.

Normally Firefox can download and install the Widevine plugin in the background when a site requires it. (Watch DRM content on Firefox)

Some users have problems with automatic installation and need to download manually. The URLs are easy to find:

https://dxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-release/source/toolkit/content/gmp-sources/widevinecdm.json

However, there also are some corresponding preference in Firefox that need to be set.

I posted some steps in an old thread, but that needs to be re-tested and updated for the new way that about:config works, so this is not a currently confirmed step-by-step: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1261833 (not sure how soon i can test it).

Hi, thanks.

When I try to download https://redirector.gvt1.com/edgedl/widevine-cdm/4.10.1582.2-win-x64.zip I get a server not found error:

"Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

We can’t connect to the server at redirector.gvt1.com."

Download won't work in a download manager either.

Hmm, when I click the "redirector" link, the server sends back this new link and then Firefox shows the download (Open/Save/Cancel) dialog:

https://r1---sn-o097znld.gvt1.com/edgedl/widevine-cdm/4.10.1582.2-win-x64.zip?cms_redirect=yes&mip=2600:1702:9d0:5430:598c:8fe2:70a:a9ad&mm=28&mn=sn-o097znld&ms=nvh&mt=1583341633&mv=m&mvi=0&pl=44&shardbypass=yes

They are both on gvt1.com so maybe something on your system is blocking access to that server?

If we assume it is a DNS problem -- DNS is the system used for finding server addresses -- you could try DNS over HTTPS to bypass your current DNS service.

If that would violate the rules of your environment -- office/workplace, school/campus, or parental controls -- then you might not want to try this.
