The normal Tbird structure is gone, I've uninstalled & reinstalled & the opening page now has no reference to contacts or the address book(s).

I'm wondering if Mozilla made another big change w/o notification to Tbird users, that seems unlikely, but how can I solve this problem when an uninstall & reinstall didn't work? Also, Tbird tried to install an update & a patch failed, this problem has repeated at least 3 times over the last 5-7 days.

Mozilla has not developed Thunderbird for 3 or 4 years. Up date come out all the time and release notes are issued if you read them.

re :opening page now has no reference to contacts or the address book(s).

In the supplied images, it is clearly shown that you have 'Address Book' on your 'Mail Toolbar'. Click on that button to open the 'Address Book'.

It also shows the 'Write' button on the 'Mail Toolbar'. Click on the 'Write' button to open a new Write window for creating messages. In the 'Write' window, you can enable the 'Contacts Sidebar' if it is not visible. 'View' > 'select 'Contacts Sidebar' The 'Contacts 'Sidebar' allows you to choose any address book and then it will display all contacts in that address book. Select contact(s) and clickon 'Add to 'TO' button to insert them in a 'TO' field.

Todd-Hall, you're correct to a point. There are ongoing problems, for example: using your directions, clicking on "Address Book", only one of the two address books shows up. I have multiple contacts in the one showing that are not part of the other group. The other group are contacts who subscribe to a Yahoo Group of which I'm an owner. And, in searching for answers to your post I've discovered that I've lost the ability to bring up or show who the individual contacts are. Looks like I'll have to contact Yahoo support about this & the real problem might still be with the Tbird software.
